Did you know Airbnb confidentially file for an IPO?
Airbnb going public!!!
Well currently we all know about Airbnb and how easy and convenient it is to schedule your vacation stay. The company announced going public this year, but due to the current financial state the company was forced to delay the process. In May the company laid off 25% of its staff, laid off contractors, paused the marketing budget, and took on $2 billion in debt to make sure the business doesn’t go bankrupt. The company agreed to have its valuation slashed from $31 billion to $18 billion in the process.
Airbnb revenue from the second quarter fell $335 million 67%
from the same period last year. However, here is the good news that Airbnb has just confidentially filed for an IPO (initial public offering) last Wednesday. In this
process, companies issue new shares to sell to investor to raise cash in the
process. It’s still unknown how many shares were issued. Its possible that the
company would go public this year, as many investors are waiting impatiently. But filing for IPO doesn’t mean the company will go public, some companies like Postmates and DoorDash also filed for IPO’s in the past and they never
went public. Airbnb has been under
pressure to go public in 2020 but now it’s up to the CEO Brian Chesky to decide
if going public would be the best option.
